Understanding Shipment Statuses

 

What are shipment statuses?
Shipment statuses give you a quick overview of the current state of a tracking request.

Tracktainer currently uses status notifications including Pending, Planned, In Transit, Arrived, Completed, and Cancelled. Each represents a different tracking state based on the shipment information available to Tracktainer.

Pending
Your tracking request has been received, but carrier voyage data is not available yet.

Tracktainer confirms the request and waits for carrier information before providing voyage details.

Planned
The shipment has been planned by the carrier.

Tracktainer may show the planned departure port, destination, ETD and ETA. In the current Planned notification example, the shipment is scheduled to depart Shanghai and arrive in Rotterdam on specified dates.

In Transit
The container has departed and is moving toward another port in its route.

An In Transit notification can also identify a transshipment point. One current example shows the container departing Shanghai and moving toward Singapore as a transshipment port.

Arrived
The shipment has reached its Port of Discharge.

Tracktainer's Arrived notification identifies the destination port and continues to keep the user informed about subsequent shipment progress.

Completed
Tracking for the shipment is finished.

The current Tracktainer notification defines Completed as the point at which all tracking events have been received and the tracking record is closed.

Cancelled
Tracking has stopped and no additional updates will be sent for that tracking request.

This can happen when the reference cannot be matched, carrier data is not received, or tracking is stopped manually.

Shipment status vs container milestone
A shipment status gives you the overall tracking state.

Container milestones, such as gate-out or empty return, describe individual operational events associated with one or more containers.
