What is Bill of Lading tracking?
A Bill of Lading, commonly called a B/L, is one of the shipment references you can use with Tracktainer.

This can be especially useful when a shipment contains multiple containers.

Instead of adding each container individually, you can start from the shipment's B/L reference.

Step 1 — Enter the B/L number
Open the Tracktainer tracking page.

Enter the full Bill of Lading reference into the search field.

Step 2 — Detect the carrier
Use Auto Detect unless you specifically need to select the shipping line manually.

Tracktainer will analyze the reference and attempt to identify the relevant carrier.

Step 3 — Start tracking
Click:

Track Shipment

Tracktainer will retrieve the available shipment and container information associated with the reference.

What can appear under a B/L?
Depending on carrier data, the shipment may include:

  • One container

  • Multiple containers

  • Carrier information

  • POL and POD

  • Route

  • Vessel information

  • ETD and ETA

  • Shipment milestones

  • Container-level events

B/L tracking vs container tracking
Use a container number when you want to follow one specific container.

Use a Bill of Lading when you want to view the broader shipment associated with that transport document.
