Tracking shipments with multiple containers
A single booking or Bill of Lading may contain more than one container.
Tracktainer can help you follow these containers together while still showing the progress of each container individually.
This makes it easier to understand which containers have completed a milestone and which ones are still waiting.
How does multi-container tracking work?
Start tracking using your:
Booking Reference
Bill of Lading
Supported shipment reference
When multiple containers are associated with the shipment, Tracktainer can display them under the same shipment record.
For example:
Shipment: MAEU1234567
MSKU7654321 — Completed
TGHU4455667 — Completed
CAIU9988776 — Pending
Your existing Tracktainer notification structure already supports this type of container-level visibility. One example shows 2 of 3 containers gated out, while the third container remains pending.
Why can containers have different statuses?
Containers belonging to the same shipment do not always complete every operational event at exactly the same time.
Tracktainer therefore displays container-level progress instead of treating every container as if it had completed the same event.
Gate-out progress
For multi-container shipments, Tracktainer can show how many containers have completed gate-out.
For example:
2 gated out · 1 pending
This helps you immediately identify which container still requires attention.
Empty return progress
The same approach applies to empty returns.
Tracktainer can show:
2 returned · 1 pending
and identify the specific container that has not yet been returned.
Once all containers have been returned empty, tracking can be marked as complete.
Where can I see all containers?
Open the shipment from your Tracktainer dashboard to view its associated containers and their latest available status.
Why is multi-container tracking useful?
It allows operations teams to quickly answer questions such as:
Which containers have already moved?
Which container is still pending?
Have all containers been gated out?
Have all empty containers been returned?
Is the entire shipment complete?
Instead of checking each container separately, you can review shipment-level and container-level progress together.
