Shipment Status
A shipment status describes the overall state of tracking.

Examples include:

Pending

Planned

In Transit

Arrived

Completed

Cancelled

For example, Tracktainer uses In Transit when available data shows the container has departed and is moving through its route.

Container Milestone
A milestone describes a specific event.

Examples currently supported by the source material include:

Gate-Out

Empty Return

and route-related movements such as departure, arrival and transshipment.

Example
A shipment might be generally shown as:

Arrived

while subsequent container-level operational events are still being reported.

The Arrived notification itself says Tracktainer will continue notifying the user about further shipment-progress changes.

This is why Arrived does not necessarily mean all tracking activity has finished.

Final completion
A later event such as empty return can represent the end of the tracking lifecycle.

For example, Tracktainer's single-container empty-return notification explicitly states:

The container has been returned empty. Tracking is now complete.
